Position: Anesthesiologist (Locum Tenens)
Facility: WellSpan Hanover Surgery Center

Assignment Length: 13 Weeks
Start Date: January 18, 2027
Schedule: Monday through Friday
Shift Hours: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM (30-minute lunch)
Coverage Type: Scheduled Clinical Coverage, No Call

WellSpan Health is seeking a Board-Certified Anesthesiologist to provide locum tenens coverage at WellSpan Hanover Surgery Center. This assignment offers a predictable weekday schedule with no call responsibilities in a busy ambulatory surgery center. The physician will work alongside CRNAs in a collaborative anesthesia care team model, providing both medical direction and personally performed anesthesia services.

  • January 18-22, 2027
  • January 25-29, 2027
  • February 8-12, 2027
  • February 15-19, 2027
  • February 22-26, 2027
  • March 1-5, 2027
  • March 15-19, 2027
  • March 22-26, 2027

Practice Setting

This opportunity is based in a modern ambulatory surgery center providing outpatient surgical care across multiple specialties.
Practice Details
  • Ambulatory Surgery Center setting
  • Monday through Friday schedule
  • No call requirements
  • Collaborative CRNA support
  • Mix of medical direction and personally performed cases
  • Epic Electronic Medical Record
  • All orientation hours billable
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Administer and monitor anesthesia for outpatient surgical procedures
  • Medically direct CRNAs as part of the anesthesia care team
  • Perform pre-operative evaluations and post-anesthesia assessments
  • Develop patient-specific anesthesia plans
  • Provide safe perioperative care across a broad range of age groups
  • Collaborate with surgeons, nursing staff, and perioperative teams
  • Document all patient encounters in Epic EMR

Case Mix

The surgery center performs a wide variety of outpatient procedures, including:
  • Orthopedic surgery
  • ENT procedures
  • General surgery
  • Gastroenterology
  • Urology
  • Additional outpatient surgical specialties
No cardiac or obstetrical cases.

Required Skills

Candidates must be comfortable with:
  • General anesthesia
  • Regional anesthesia techniques
  • Peripheral nerve blocks
  • High-volume orthopedic anesthesia
  • Pediatric and adult patient care
Orthopedic anesthesia with regional block proficiency is required and represents a significant portion of the caseload.

Patient Population

Providers will care for:
  • Infants
  • Pediatric patients
  • Adolescents
  • Adults
  • Geriatric patients
Most cases involve patients one year of age and older, although occasional procedures may include infants under one year old, particularly ENT cases such as ear tubes and tonsillectomies.

Qualifications

Required
  • Board Certified Anesthesiologist (Board Eligible candidates will not be considered)
  • Active Pennsylvania Medical License or IMLC Letter of Qualification
  • DEA Registration
  • Current BLS Certification
  • Current ACLS Certification
  • Current PALS Certification
  • Minimum of two years of recent anesthesiology experience
