SPECIALTY: Anesthesiology (MD/DO)
POSITION TYPE: Locum Tenens
LOCATION: Canton-Potsdam Hospital, 50 Leroy St, Potsdam, NY 13676 — North Country New York, near the St. Lawrence River and Canadian border
FACILITY: Canton-Potsdam Hospital — 94-bed community hospital, 7 ORs (4 main OR, 3 Leroy Outpatient Center)
START DATE: September 2026 — urgent need
DURATION: 10 weeks through December 2026
THE CLINICAL PICTURE
- 7am to 3:30pm shifts, 7 ORs per day
- Case mix: inpatient, epidurals, general anesthesia, OB, thoracic, scheduled surgeries. Basic regional blocks and central lines required.
- No hearts, no heads, no vascular, no spines, no sick peds
- OB is required and non-negotiable
- All ages including pediatric (no sick peds)
- May involve CRNA supervision
- EMR: Epic
- 94-bed hospital, rural North Country New York setting
Potsdam sits in the North Country of New York, near the St. Lawrence River and the Canadian border. It is home to Clarkson University and SUNY Potsdam. The Adirondacks are an hour south. Montreal is about 90 minutes north. For a physician who wants to practice medicine in a genuinely beautiful part of the northeast without the noise of a major metro, this is that assignment.
Job Responsibilities
$400/hr clinic rate — above the $300-$325/hr competitors are posting for this same market
$500/hr OT and callback rate
$650/night weeknight at-home beeper
$2,000 per 24-hour weekend call period with 2-hour gratis
Holiday call premium available for December coverage
Full expenses: flight, rental car, lodging, mileage, tolls, and parking covered
Qualifications
MD or DO — anesthesiologist
Board certified or truly board eligible. No grandfathered BE candidates.
New York license in hand at submission. No exceptions. No waiting.
OB experience required. Non-negotiable.
Comfortable with basic regional blocks and central lines
ACLS, BLS, PALS current
DEA required
Drug screen and NPDB required for credentialing
Credentialing: 6 weeks
Interview: Name clear, interview with Anesthesia Chief, offer

October 5-23 | Weekday call October 21
December 21-30 | Weekday call December 24 | Holiday weekend call December 25-27
