Job description
We are seeking experienced Anesthesiologists for a high-acuity locums opportunity based primarily in San Francisco, CA. Providers will support a mix of inpatient hospital OR coverage and ambulatory surgery center cases across several affiliated facilities.
Please note: This is not an outpatient-only position. Providers must be comfortable floating between inpatient and outpatient settings and managing higher-acuity surgical cases.
Practice Details
- Contract Length: 26+ weeks
- Schedule: Full-time preferred
- Minimum Availability: At least 2 weeks/month required
- Practice Setting: Hospital and Ambulatory Surgery Centers
- EMR: EPIC
- Support Staff: CRNAs
- Patient Population: Adults and adolescents (13+)
Facility Locations
Primary location is based in San Francisco, with coverage responsibilities that may include floating between the following sister facilities:
- Bay Front
- Mt. Zion
- Mission Bay
- Ortho Institute
- Parnassus
- Burlingame
Case Mix
Providers will rotate between high-acuity inpatient surgical centers and outpatient surgery centers.
Cases Include:
- General surgical anesthesia
- Occasional regional anesthesia cases
No Cases Involving:
- Cardiac
- Liver transplant
- Neuro
Candidate Requirements
- Board Certified in Anesthesiology required
- Will consider truly Board Eligible candidates, especially fellowship-trained providers
- Active California license required
- Active California DEA with Schedule II authorization required
- BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA only)
- Minimum 2 years of recent anesthesiology experience required
- Recent tertiary care center experience required
- Must have recent solo practice experience
- Trauma experience strongly preferred
- Regional anesthesia skills strongly preferred but not required
Ideal Candidate
The ideal provider will have:
- Recent experience (within the last 2–3 years) managing a balanced mix of inpatient and outpatient surgical anesthesia cases
- Comfort with higher-acuity patients (ASA 3+ preferred)
- Flexibility to float between facilities and practice settings
- Ability to work independently in the OR while occasionally supervising CRNAs
