The University of Missouri School of Medicine (MU SOM), Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Medicine is seeking an innovative and motivated Vice Chair of Clinical Research to create and sustain a culture of research within the department. The Vice Chair of Clinical Research will be provided opportunities to mentor clinical faculty, collaborate with various departments across campus, and build a robust clinical research program. The successful candidate may also be eligible for the Russell D. and Mary B. Shelden Missouri Chair in Anesthesiology.

Looking to the future we have recently made a huge investment in research, particularly in the fields of cancer, cardiovascular and metabolic disorders, and neurosciences. For example, the NextGen Precision Health Institute is a $220 million, 265,000 square-foot research facility in which scientists and clinicians can collaborate with experts across various disciplines. The institute is equipped for every step of the translational research process and houses a MAGNETOM Terra 7 Tesla (7T) MRI scanner, PET/CT, Cryo-EM and high-resolution electron microscopy, Clinical Translational Science Unit, Integrated informatics and data analytics spaces, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) spaces for pilot-scale manufacturing, and clean rooms for tissue engineering and device fabrication.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and develop an anesthesia-focused clinical research program
  • Collaborate with basic scientists and clinicians within MU SOM as well as various colleges across MU campus

Candidates Will Be Evaluated On:

  • Secure NIH funding or other extramural funding
  • Produce high-impact publications

Qualifications:

  • PhD, MD/DO, PhD/MD, or PhD/DVM with focus on anesthesia in one or more of the following areas:
    • Pharmacology & Physiology
    • Biochemistry
    • Bioengineering
    • Cardiovascular
    • Cancer
    • Neurosciences

Candidates Will Be Evaluated On:

  • Demonstrated track record of obtaining extramural funding
