Job description
We are seeking experienced Physician Assistants (PAs) and Nurse Practitioners (NPs) to provide locum urgent care coverage at multiple outpatient clinic locations throughout Virginia.
This is a 100% outpatient opportunity with clinics open 7 days a week, from 8:00 AM–8:00 PM. Providers will work approximately 3 shifts per week, with shifts lasting 12 hours or longer depending on patient flow. Providers are expected to evaluate and treat patients who arrive during the clinic's hours of operation.
The patient population ranges from birth through adulthood, with patient volume and acuity varying by location and day. Providers can expect approximately 25–50 patients per day, with volumes potentially increasing during cold and flu season.
This is a great opportunity for a PA or NP looking for flexible locum coverage in a busy urgent care environment while working alongside an established clinical team.
Coverage is needed as soon as credentialing is completed and will continue until a permanent provider is hired.
Job Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include:
Perform comprehensive patient evaluations, histories, and physical examinations
Diagnose and treat acute illnesses, injuries, and minor medical conditions
Develop appropriate treatment plans and provide patient education
Perform minor urgent care procedures
Order and interpret diagnostic testing
Recognize higher-acuity conditions and arrange appropriate transfer to an ED/ER or higher level of care when necessary
Provide initial emergency stabilization when indicated
Accurately document patient encounters in Epic
Collaborate with clinical staff and other healthcare providers
Provide safe, efficient, patient-centered care in a fast-paced environment
Qualifications
Board Certified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
Active Virginia license
Active BLS certification
Active DEA registration
Minimum 1 year of ED/ER, Urgent Care, or Primary Care experience
Clean professional background
No malpractice or licensing issues
Additional Requirements:
Must be available for approximately 3 shifts per week
Must be willing to work weekends as part of the clinic's 7-day schedule
Must be comfortable working shifts of 12+ hours based on patient flow
Must be able to provide care throughout the clinic's hours of operation

Practice Setting: Outpatient Urgent Care Clinic

Skills
Simple, intermediate, and complex laceration repair
Suturing and stapling
Incision and drainage (I&D), including packing
Foreign body removal
Minor burn management
Skin lesion care
Orthopedic and injury stabilization
Splinting and casting
Joint reduction
Diagnostic and point-of-care testing
X-ray interpretation
EKG evaluation
Point-of-care laboratory interpretation, including:
Rapid strep
Influenza
COVID-19
RSV
Urinalysis
Blood glucose
Epistaxis management, including anterior nasal packing and chemical cautery
Cerumen impaction removal
Nebulizer treatments
Initial emergency stabilization and airway support
Skills Required
At least 1 year of experience in an Emergency Department/ER, Urgent Care, or Primary Care setting
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills
Ability to manage a diverse patient population from pediatric through adult
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume urgent care environment
Proficiency with urgent care procedures and minor injury management
Ability to recognize patients requiring a higher level of care
Strong communication and patient education skills
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the clinical team
Strong documentation skills and experience with electronic medical records
