Thoracic Surgery Physician Assistant Locum Need – Boston, MA

Coverage Dates

• Start Date: 10/19/2026
• Expected coverage need: Approximately 5–6 months
  
• Coverage for maternity leave

Schedule

• 2–3 shifts per week
• 12-hour night shifts
• 6:30 PM–7:00 AM
• Coverage may fall Monday–Sunday
• No call

Practice Setting

• Acute Care Hospital
• Inpatient Thoracic Surgery
• Post-operative floor
• Step-down
• ICU
• OR patients
• Adult and geriatric population
• EMR: Epic

Patient Volume

• Approximately 15–25 patients per shift
• 25 patients is typically the maximum census

Support Staff

• PA will primarily provide solo coverage
• Thoracic Surgery fellow available overnight for support
• Fellow also covers the ER, rounds, and consults
• Hospital code team available
• PA may serve as first responder until the fellow arrives

Procedures / Responsibilities

• Manage post-operative Thoracic Surgery patients
• Chest tube management
• Blake drain management
• Pigtail management
• ABGs
• NGT management
• G-tube management
• J-tube management
• Manage patients arriving from the OR, ICU, and step-down units
• Perform H&Ps for patients transferred from outside hospitals as needed
• Respond to urgent clinical situations until additional physician support arrives

Requirements

• NCCPA Board Certification required
• ACLS required
• BLS required
• DEA required
• Minimum 1 year of experience
• Thoracic Surgery experience required
• Epic experience
• Must be comfortable working independently overnight
• Massachusetts licensure required for assignment; facility is not willing to license
