Clinic, OR & Inpatient | First Assist | 1:4 Call | 24/7 Trauma Coverage
An established General Surgery and Trauma program in Lima, Ohio is seeking a Physician Assistant to join its surgical team. This full-time opportunity provides extensive hands-on experience across the Emergency Department, inpatient service, operating room, and outpatient clinic. The PA will rotate with other Advanced Practice Providers to provide continuous coverage for Trauma and Emergency General Surgery while working closely with the on-call surgeon.
Position Highlights
* Full-time, permanent Physician Assistant opportunity
* General Surgery and Trauma
* Minimum of 40 hours per week
* 80 hours per pay period
* Rotating schedule based on program coverage needs
* Combination of Trauma, General Surgery, OR, inpatient, and outpatient care
* Serve as the first responding provider for trauma activations
* Surgical first-assist opportunities
* Participate in Emergency General Surgery consultations
* Perform admissions and inpatient rounding
* Collaborative relationship with on-call surgeons
* Rotate with other PAs to provide 24/7 Trauma and Emergency General Surgery coverage
* 1:4 call rotation
* Broad, hands-on surgical and acute-care experience
Clinical Responsibilities
* Respond to trauma activations as the first responding provider
* Initiate trauma evaluations and appropriate diagnostic workups
* Perform General Surgery consultations
* Coordinate treatment plans with the on-call surgeon
* Complete hospital admissions for Trauma and General Surgery patients
* Round on hospitalized surgical patients
* Coordinate inpatient care with physicians, nursing, and other specialties
* Assist in the operating room for General Surgery and Trauma cases
* Serve as first assist during surgical procedures
* Provide postoperative patient management
* Participate in outpatient surgical clinic on a rotating basis
* Provide continuity of care across emergency, surgical, inpatient, and outpatient settings
* Participate in the 1:4 call schedule
* Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Qualifications
* Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
* Current NCCPA certification
* Current or eligible Ohio Physician Assistant license
* General Surgery, Trauma, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, or other acute-care experience preferred
* Comfortable responding to trauma activations and managing acutely ill surgical patients
* Interest in surgical first-assist responsibilities
* Ability to work a rotating schedule as part of a 24/7 coverage model
* Strong clinical assessment and rapid decision-making skills
* Excellent communication and multidisciplinary collaboration skills
* Commitment to high-quality, patient-centered surgical and trauma care
