A Cardiothoracic Surgery program in Kalamazoo, Michigan is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant to join its surgical team. This position offers a diverse mix of inpatient rounding, outpatient care, bedside procedures, and hands-on operating room responsibilities. The PA will play an integral role throughout the surgical continuum, including OR first assist and endoscopic vein and radial artery harvesting.
Position Highlights
Full-time Cardiothoracic Surgery PA opportunity
Monday–Friday day schedule
Combination of inpatient, outpatient, and operating room responsibilities
Surgical first assist
Endoscopic vein harvesting
Endoscopic radial artery harvesting
Daily rounding on hospitalized Cardiothoracic Surgery patients
Outpatient patient management
Broad procedural responsibilities
Collaborative surgical team environment
Relocation assistance available where applicable
Clinical & Surgical Responsibilities
Daily rounding on all in-house Cardiothoracic Surgery patients
Participate in outpatient clinical care
Serve as first assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures
Endoscopic vein harvest
Radial artery harvest
Perioperative patient management
Coordinate care with surgeons, nursing, and other hospital-based specialists
Assist with continuity of care throughout the preoperative and postoperative process
Bedside Procedures
Opportunity to perform a broad range of procedures, including:
Chest tube placement
Thoracentesis
Radial arterial line placement
Central line placement
Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) removal
Additional procedures within training and scope of practice
Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program
Master’s degree preferred
NCCPA certification required
Michigan Physician Assistant licensure or eligibility required
Prescriptive authority required
BLS certification required within 30 days of hire
Advanced Life Support certification preferred
Ability to obtain appropriate hospital credentialing and privileges
Strong clinical, procedural, and surgical skills
Interest in Cardiothoracic Surgery and perioperative patient care
