Job description
Seeking an experienced Locum Physician Assistant to provide General Surgery coverage in an acute care hospital setting. This position combines Surgical First Assist operating room responsibilities with Medical Surgical Floor coverage.
The PA will work closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals while primarily supporting General Surgery, OB/GYN, and Orthopedic patients. Robotics experience is required.
Job Responsibilities
• Assist with positioning patients to maintain circulation and surgical access
• Assist with cauterization of wounds and vessels
• Apply clamps, sutures, staples, and surgical adhesives
• Assist with wound closure and postoperative care
• Apply direct pressure to veins and tissue to support hemostasis
• Assist with suction, drainage, and irrigation
• Assist with controlling bleeding and maintaining hemostasis
• Immobilize and position patients appropriately during procedures
• Participate in robotic surgical procedures
• Round on Medical Surgical Floor patients
• Complete progress notes and manage patient orders
• Assist with patient consultations and discharges
• Provide care for acutely ill adult patients
• Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia, nursing, and other healthcare professionals
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation in EPIC
• Participate in weekday and weekend call coverage as scheduled
Qualifications
• Board Certified
• Minimum 2 years of recent experience
• Recent surgical experience required
• Robotics experience required
• Surgical First Assist experience required
• EPIC experience required
• AHA BLS certification
• AHA ACLS certification
• ATLS certification
• AHA or RQI certifications accepted as applicable
• Must have an updated CV with complete work history
• Work history should account for gaps of 30 days or more
• Residents and Fellows are not eligible
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Comfortable managing adult acutely ill patients
• NY License must be in hand
Working Hours
• Night Coverage: 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Weekday Call: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM or 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
• Weekend Call: Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 7:00 AM
• Weekend rounds: Saturday & Sunday, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
• Ongoing PRN coverage with specific required coverage periods
• December 14–18: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• December 18–21: 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• December 28–30: 3 × 12 hour shifts
• Weeknight call: 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Scheduled coverage with optional on call responsibilities
