Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant
Location: Lexington, KY
Job Type: PRN / Locum Tenens
Overview:
A hospital-based opportunity is available for a skilled Physician Assistant with cardiothoracic surgery experience. This role includes first assisting in the OR as well as inpatient responsibilities across telemetry and ICU settings. The ideal candidate is comfortable with a wide range of cardiothoracic procedures and working closely with surgeons in a collaborative environment.
Compensation:
Daily call - $1500 includes 4 hour gratis
Call-back - $220/hr after 4 hours
Orientation $110/hr
Holiday 1.5x regular rate
Assignment Dates:
May 31 – June 13, 2026
June 6 – 8, 2026 (critical coverage)
July 20 – 26, 2026
Schedule:
One weekend per month (Friday 7:00 AM – Monday 7:00 AM)
1–2 call days per week
Ongoing vacation/PTO coverage
Practice Details:
Setting: Inpatient and Operating Room
EMR: Epic
Role supports cardiothoracic surgeons
Responsibilities:
First assist in cardiothoracic surgeries
Inpatient rounding and patient management
ICU and telemetry unit coverage
Surgical procedures including:
Vein harvesting
Chest tube placement
Required Experience & Skills:
Proficiency in:
CABG
Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR)
Mitral Valve Replacement (MVR)
Thoracotomy and lung resection procedures
Ability to function independently in surgical and inpatient settings
Requirements:
Active Kentucky License – Required
Strong procedural competency in cardiothoracic surgery – Required
Clean malpractice/background history – Required
Credentialing:
Estimated timeframe: 90–110 days
