Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Physician Assistant to join a specialized Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) team caring for critically ill pediatric patients with congenital and acquired heart disease. The Advanced Practice Provider will serve as a primary covering provider within a 6-bed acuity-adaptable Pediatric Cardiac Care Center, managing complex patients across the continuum of cardiac critical care. Candidates should be comfortable caring for children with congenital heart disease, complex cardiac anatomy and physiology, and post-operative cardiac surgical conditions.

Clinical Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive management of critically ill cardiac patients, including:

• Pre-operative and post-operative pediatric cardiac surgery patients
• Complex congenital heart disease
• High-risk single ventricle physiology
• Open chest management
• Arrhythmia diagnosis and management
• Vasopressor and inotropic support
• External and internal pacemaker management
• VA and VV ECMO support
• Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT)
• Adult congenital heart disease patients requiring critical care management
• Occasional PICU boarder patients with diverse critical care needs

While a strong understanding of ICU procedures is essential, this position is primarily focused on advanced patient management and critical care decision-making rather than procedural volume.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience
• Extensive knowledge of congenital heart disease and complex cardiac physiology
• Graduate of an ARC-PA approved Physician Assistant program
• Active New York State Physician Assistant license in good standing
• Current NCCPA certification
• Current BLS certification (AHA)
• Current PALS certification

Preferred Qualifications

• Pediatric Acute Care Physician Assistant Certification
• Additional experience in advanced cardiac critical care, ECMO, and post-operative congenital cardiac surgery management
