We are seeking an experienced Orthopedic Physician Assistant to support medical & surgical care for orthopedic patients in both inpatient & outpatient settings.
The PA will work closely with attending orthopedic physicians and participate in comprehensive patient care, including inpatient management, emergency care, surgical assistance, discharge planning & outpatient services.
The role also includes first or second assisting in the operating room and rotating on call coverage for orthopedic surgical services, including nights, weekends, holidays & high volume event dates.
Job Responsibilities
• Order appropriate diagnostic tests, labs, X-rays & medications within PA scope
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds
• Communicate treatment plans with orthopedic physicians, nursing staff & families
• Manage patient discharge planning, follow-up & education
• Assess emergency conditions & assist with appropriate management
• Perform bedside History & Physical examinations as needed
• Initiate appropriate emergency care in inpatient & outpatient settings
• Serve as first or second surgical assistant in the operating room
• Assist with surgical exposure, dissection & wound closure
• Apply dressings & immobilization devices
• Participate in rotating surgical on call coverage
• Provide coverage during holidays & high volume event dates as assigned
Qualifications
• BLS certification through AHA or American Red Cross required
• DEA license required
• Minimum 3 years of experience in inpatient, outpatient & surgical care
• Orthopedic experience preferred
• Strong clinical judgment & critical thinking skills
• Excellent communication & teamwork skills
• Compassionate, knowledgeable & patient focused approach
Working Hours
• Inpatient & outpatient responsibilities
• Nights & weekends included in on call coverage
• Rotating holiday coverage
• Potential coverage at a nearby clinic location as needed
