Job Description

Last Update: 3/19/24

To prospective teammates,

I’m the hospitalist director for Piedmont Macon North in Macon, Georgia. I have been a part of Sound Physicians for five years. I’m proud of the practice we have built and welcome interest from physicians and advanced practitioners (APPs) coming out of training or desiring a career change. I’d like to share more about it, specifically about our people, practice, and purpose, as you consider options:

People:
  • We are a closely knit, established team of six physicians and two APPs, with the support of one clinical performance nurse.
  • Our group is very stable, all of which have been in place since Sound assumed the hospitalist program at Piedmont Macon, and most of us were here before Sounds’ partnership with Piedmont Macon.
  • Macon is a mid-sized town, home of Mercer University and Agnes Scott College. The weather is exceptional, and many of us like to bike the Ocmulgee Heritage Trail or paddle down the Ocmulgee River.
  • The downtown section of Macon has experienced a revival. Many shops and buildings have been renovated and are not dining or shopping establishments, and several buildings have been converted to high-rise lofts.
  • We are only an hour from the Atlanta airport, and it’s just a short drive to take advantage of Atlanta shopping, restaurants, museums, theater, concerts, and all the professional sporting events held throughout the year.
Practice:
  • We welcome the challenge of complex cases, but we also have the luxury of directly transferring patients to Piedmont Macon downtown should the patient need a higher level of care.
  • We have an open ICU with tele-intensivist backup day and night.
  • Most of us like to spend time with our families or outdoors, so a flexible schedule is available, and we cover for each other when we’re out.
  • Our advanced practitioners work nocturnist shifts, taking cross-coverage calls on an average daily census of 25-30 patients, averaging 1-3 admissions/night.
  • We don’t do procedures or run codes or rapid.
  • Teammates benefit from Sound’s total rewards program, including competitive yearly compensation at $150,000 with financial, health, & well-being benefits.
Purpose:
  • We put patients first. Always.
  • A focus on growth and development is a key feature of Sound’s practices, where teammates can expand their careers here locally and within the broader medical group.
  • We are community-minded and urge team members who want to contribute in and out of the hospital to make our local community thrive.
