Practice Setting: Level III NICU
Shift: Weekend coverage; 12- or 24-hour shifts
Group & Support:
-
3 neonatologists, 6 mid-levels + 1 per diem
-
No additional neonatologists during locums coverage
-
Supervise RNs and ancillary staff (no NNPs)
-
Neonatologist present during day; on call otherwise
Responsibilities:
-
Attend C-sections
-
Cover Level I (Well-Baby) Nursery nights
-
Average census: 8–9 patients; admissions 0–2 per shift
-
16-bed NICU
Procedures: Ventilation management (ETT, BiPAP/CPAP), central/arterial line placement, UAC/UVC, chest tubes, exchange transfusions, lumbar punctures, diagnostic/therapeutic taps, and acute BP/volume management
