Position Type: Locum
Schedule: Nights – 5:00 PM – 5:00 AM or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Call: No call required
Coverage: Roughly 1 week per month
Unit Information:
- Staff on Unit:
- 1 Provider
- 1 NP
- 1 LPN
- Acuity Level: Adults acutely ill with a wide variety of medical problems
- Number of Beds: 109 total
- Patient Ratios: 1:10-15
- Automated Medication Dispensing System: Pixys
- Charting: EPIC
Position Overview:
The Hospitalist Physician Assistant (PA) will provide general medical care to hospitalized patients, including diagnosing and treating a variety of illnesses and diseases, as well as coordinating care for patients admitted to the hospital. This is a locum position based in a well-established facility in Potsdam, NY. You will be part of a team that crosses coverage on medical floors but does not handle OB unless a medical consult is needed.
Job Responsibilities
Patient Care:
Provide basic medical care to hospitalized patients
Diagnose and treat illnesses and diseases
Examine patients upon admission
Coordinate care with primary care providers and specialists
Follow up with patients post-discharge
Order and interpret diagnostic tests, lab work, and X-rays
Respond to rapid response calls (all providers respond)
Admissions:
Admissions are rotated among all providers on shift
Number of admissions per shift varies based on day and patient volume
Unit Specifics:
Closed ICU
Medical floors cross-coverage (no OB unless consult needed)
ER is for admits only
Shift Information:
Night Shifts:
5:00 PM – 5:00 AM or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Two providers scheduled per night shift: One APP (5:00 PM – 5:00 AM) and one MD (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
No call required
Qualifications
Required:
AHA BLS and ACLS certification
NY State Medical License
Minimum of 2 years’ recent experience in hospitalist or related clinical settings
