Critical Care/ ICU Locum Physician Assistant Need – New York

We are seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) for locum tenens coverage in New York. This opportunity offers a consistent 7-on/7-off daytime schedule, with inpatient Hospital Medicine and dedicated ICU coverage responsibilities.

Assignment Details

• Schedule: 7 days on / 7 days off
• Shift Hours: 7:00 AM–7:00 PM
• EMR: Epic

Schedule

• 14 shifts per month
• 7-on/7-off rotation required
• 12-hour day shifts

Practice Setting

• 109-bed hospital
• Adult patients with a variety of acute medical conditions
• Typical patient census: 10–15 patients per provider
• ICU census typically 6 patients but may exceed this when ED holds occur
• Pyxis automated medication dispensing system

Clinical Responsibilities

Hospital Medicine

• Provide comprehensive inpatient medical care
• Evaluate and manage acute and chronic medical conditions
• Perform admission evaluations and daily rounding
• Order and interpret diagnostic testing, laboratory studies, and imaging
• Coordinate care with physicians, nursing staff, and specialists
• Communicate with primary care providers regarding patient care
• Assist with discharge planning and patient education
• Rotate through floor admissions with other providers

ICU Coverage

• Provide dedicated ICU coverage when assigned
• Remain in the ICU throughout assigned ICU shifts
• Manage ICU admissions, including ICU patients boarding in the emergency department
• Continue following ICU patients transferred to the medical floor until the following day, when floor providers assume care
• Evaluate and manage critically ill adult patients within the PA's scope of practice

Procedures

• Procedures are NOT required
• Central line placement experience is preferred but not required

Support Staff

Department staffing includes:

• 1 Provider
• 1 Nurse Practitioner
• 1 Licensed Practical Nurse

Requirements

• Physician Assistant (PA)
• Active New York PA license required
• Minimum 2 years of recent clinical experience
• AHA BLS certification required
• AHA ACLS certification required

Ideal Candidate

An experienced Critical Care Physician Assistant with a strong inpatient medicine background who is comfortable managing acutely ill adults and providing dedicated ICU coverage. The ideal candidate can manage a patient census of approximately 10–15 patients, collaborate with the medical team, and commit to a consistent 7-on/7-off daytime schedule.

Procedures are not required, although central line experience is a plus.
