Atrium Health at CMC Main is looking for an experienced full-time Advance Practice Provider (APP) with experience in cardiac surgery post op management and critical care. This position is seeking board certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioners (ACNP) or Physician Assistants (PA). Experience in a cardiothoracic intensive care unit (CT-ICU) as an APP, or a post grad ICU fellowship is required for application. CT-ICU intensivists provide supervision. Duties include: admission directly from the operating room and management of hemodynamically complex, post op cardiac surgery patients. Familiarity with mechanical support devices ie ECMO, VADs, and IABPs as well as knowledge of heart transplant management is preferred but not required. Experience with procedures including central line, arterial line placement and intubation are helpful but not required.
Job Responsibilities
Provide advanced hemodynamic management through interpretation of pulmonary artery catheter data and oversight of chest tubes and temporary epicardial pacing systems. Manage patients requiring mechanical circulatory support, including Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs), Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), and Intra-Aortic Balloon Pumps (IABPs).
Participate in a 24/7 shift-based coverage model consisting of 13-hour shifts, with rotating day, night, weekend, and holiday responsibilities shared equitably among providers. The position requires approximately 145 shifts annually.
Contribute to the education and development of APP fellows and nursing staff through clinical teaching and mentorship. The role offers eligibility for overtime compensation, shift differential pay, paid time off, performance incentive bonuses, and an annual Continuing Medical Education (CME) allowance of $2,500.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program required.
Nurse Practitioners must hold a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree and maintain certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) through a nationally recognized certifying body.
Physician Assistants must maintain certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
Post-graduate ICU fellowship training or prior experience in a Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CT-ICU) is preferred.
Demonstrated critical thinking, clinical judgment, and strong interpersonal communication skills are required.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications are required.
Must maintain competency in the management of mechanical circulatory support devices.
Eligible for North Carolina licensure and able to obtain state licensure within 60 days of hire.
