Job description
A respected Pulmonary & Critical Care team in Newport News, VA is seeking an experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or Physician Assistant to provide overnight ICU coverage.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced critical care APP who enjoys high-acuity medicine, autonomy, and close collaboration with intensivists in a dedicated ICU environment.
The provider will support a 10-bed ICU managing critically ill adult patients overnight, including admissions, cross-coverage, rapid response, and complex ICU care.
This is a true ICU position and is not an outpatient, urgent care, primary care, aesthetic medicine, or clinic-based role.
The ideal candidate will have recent ICU, Critical Care, Hospital Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Pulmonary/Critical Care APP experience and be comfortable independently managing critically ill patients during overnight shifts.
Job Responsibilities
Evaluate and manage critically ill adult patients
Perform ICU admissions and patient assessments
Manage ventilated patients and complex medical conditions
Provide cross-coverage and respond to rapid response situations
Collaborate with intensivists, physicians, nursing teams, and hospital staff
Participate in procedures including central lines, arterial lines, and intubations (based on credentialing and experience)
Develop and implement treatment plans for high-acuity ICU patients
Maintain accurate clinical documentation
Qualifications
Licensed Nurse Practitioner (Acute Care NP preferred) or Physician Assistant
Active Virginia license or eligibility
ACLS certification required
Recent ICU/Critical Care clinical experience
Strong adult critical care knowledge and decision-making skills
Ability to work independently overnight with physician support

Experience managing ventilated patients
Experience with invasive procedures
Working Hours
Overnight shifts: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
