Cardiothoracic ICU APP Opportunity

A busy Level I Trauma hospital is seeking an experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join a high-acuity Cardiothoracic ICU team on a locum assignment. This opportunity offers exposure to advanced cardiac surgery cases and mechanical circulatory support in a collaborative critical care environment.

Practice Details

• Adult patient population

• 6–12 patients per day plus consults

• Epic EMR

• 733-bed hospital with a 12-bed Cardiac Surgery ICU

• 1–2 providers per shift

• Day and night shift options available:

  • 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM

  • 7:00 PM – 8:00 AM

Clinical Responsibilities

• Manage critically ill patients recovering from:

  • Aortic surgery

  • Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)

  • Thoracic surgery

  • Valve surgery

• Collaborate with attending physicians and APPs in the management of:

  • ECMO

  • IABP

  • LVAD

  • RVAD

  • Impella devices

• Perform bedside ICU procedures including:

  • Central line placement

  • Arterial line insertion

  • Dialysis catheter placement

  • Bronchoscopy

  • Chest tube management

• Order and interpret diagnostic studies

• Respond to emergent and critical situations

• Deliver evidence-based perioperative and critical care management focused on quality outcomes and patient experience

Requirements

• Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

• Prior cardiac surgery ICU experience required

• Surgical first assist experience not required

• Comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced ICU environment

• Strong communication and teamwork skills

• Providers who can commit to remaining local for the full duration of the assignment are highly preferred.
