Locums | Cardiothoracic Surgery PA | Portland, OR (Active OR license required) Why This Role

  • Thoracic surgery-focused opportunity
  • Mix of OR first assist and outpatient clinic
  • Full-time, six-month assignment
  • VATS and robotic surgical exposure
  • Multiple providers considered
Assignment Details Start/end: March 1 – August 31, 2027 Schedule: Monday–Friday, approximately 35–40 hours/week Shifts: Four 10-hour shifts/week anticipated; final hours TBD Coverage type: Clinic + OR + Call Call: 24-hour beeper call, approximately 10 days/month Call frequency: 1:4, including at least one weekend/month Weekend call: Friday 7a – Monday 7a, with inpatient rounding Call response time: 30 minutes Callback rate: Approximately 20% Volume: Approximately 10 patients/shift Setting: Inpatient, outpatient, and operating room Schedule mix: Approximately 2 clinic days and 2 OR days/week Support: 3 APPs, 2 RNs, and office staff Locations: Multiple hospitals and clinics in the Portland area EMR: Epic Credentialing: Approximately 60–120 days; no temporary privileges Clinical Details Cardiothoracic and thoracic surgery first assist Thoracic surgical cases, including VATS and robotic procedures Outpatient thoracic surgery clinic Inpatient postoperative rounding and management Surgical patient triage and coordination with surgeons Preferred: Thoracic surgery experience Preferred: Endoscopic vein harvesting using Maquet equipment Preferred: Open radial harvesting and harmonic scalpel techniques Night and weekend beeper call, with telephone triage and callback as needed New consultations and ED calls directed to the on-call surgeon Requirements Physician Assistant with Cardiovascular/Cardiothoracic Surgery experience Active Oregon PA license required Board certification/eligibility per facility criteria First-assist certification required Active DEA required BLS required ACLS required Thoracic surgery experience preferred Five years of recent CV surgery experience preferred, not required Ability to travel between affiliated hospitals and clinics Availability for full-time coverage and rotating call Compensation Rate caps apply per facility Malpractice provided Travel and lodging reimbursed
