About the Role
Join a respected healthcare system in coastal Virginia as a Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner, supporting a small, collaborative surgical team. In this role, you will help manage patients throughout the cardiothoracic surgical process—from pre-operative evaluation to post-operative care—while working closely with cardiothoracic surgeons and other advanced practice clinicians. This position offers the opportunity to practice at the top of your license in a high-acuity, patient-focused environment.
Position Highlights
Practice Setting: Hospital and outpatient clinic
Patient Population: Adults (18+), mix of inpatient and outpatient
Average Caseload:
Outpatient: 1–5 patients/day
Inpatient: 5–10 patients/day
EMR: Epic (inpatient and outpatient)

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner seeking a supportive, team-oriented environment in a desirable coastal region.
Job Responsibilities
• Assist in the management of cardiothoracic surgery patients throughout the perioperative period
• Provide post-operative care and follow-up in both inpatient and outpatient settings
• Collaborate with cardiothoracic surgeons and multidisciplinary clinical teams
• Manage treatment plans, medications, and diagnostic testing as appropriate
• Document patient encounters and treatment plans in the electronic medical record
• Support patient education and care coordination
Qualifications
• Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP)
• Active or eligible Virginia Nurse Practitioner license
• Ability to obtain prescriptive authority in Virginia
• Experience in cardiothoracic surgery, cardiac surgery, critical care, or surgical services preferred
• Eligible for participation in Medicare and other federal healthcare programs
Working Hours
Call: 1:2 shared rotation
This position includes both hospital-based and outpatient clinic responsibilities.
