Nurse Practitioner – Pediatric Neurosurgery (Locum Tenens)

Position Overview

A leading academic healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner to provide inpatient Pediatric Neurosurgery coverage. This role focuses on direct patient care, including daily rounding, patient assessment, care coordination, order management, and discharge planning. The Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with neurosurgery residents and multidisciplinary care teams in a hospital-based setting.

Assignment Details

• Start Date: September 7, 2026
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week
• Shift Hours: 6:00 AM – 7:00 PM (13-hour shifts)
• Coverage Type: Scheduled clinical coverage only
• Call Requirements: None
• Nights: None
• Holidays: None

Clinical Responsibilities

• Participate in daily inpatient neurosurgery rounds with residents and care teams.
• Assess, evaluate, and manage pediatric neurosurgical patients.
• Review and implement treatment plans.
• Enter and manage clinical orders.
• Coordinate patient care and discharge planning.
• Provide direct patient care for hospitalized neurosurgical patients.
• Perform drain removal procedures (Hemovac and JP drains) when clinically appropriate.
• Collaborate with physicians, residents, nursing staff, and ancillary departments to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Note: Advanced Practice Providers in this role do not participate in operating room procedures. A resident team provides operative support.

Qualifications

Required

• Board Certified Nurse Practitioner with Neurosurgery experience
• Active Massachusetts Nurse Practitioner license
• Minimum of one year of Neurosurgery experience
• Experience with inpatient neurosurgical patient management
• Proficiency with Epic EMR
