Locums – Saint Louis, Missouri, NP/PA Cardiothoracic Surgery Opening

Clinical Role

• Ongoing, PRN coverage preferred
• High-acuity Cardiac Surgery ICU and stepdown coverage
• Adult patients
• Comprehensive inpatient management of complex pre- and postoperative cardiac surgery patients
• High degree of autonomy with Cardiac Surgeon and multidisciplinary team collaboration
• No call

Open Shifts

November 2026

• November 26-27: Stepdown, 6:00 am-6:30 pm
• November 28-29: ICU, 6:30 am-7:00 pm

December 2026

• December 7-8, 12-14, 24-25: Stepdown, 6:00 am-6:30 pm
• December 21-23: ICU nights, 6:30 pm-7:00 am

January 2027

• January 1-3: Stepdown, 6:00 am-6:30 pm
• January 1-3: 2 ICU providers needed, 6:30 am-7:00 pm

Practice Setting & Patient Volume

• Cardiac Surgery ICU and stepdown service
• Census approximately 12-22 patients
• Approximately 12-15 primary patients with remaining volume consisting of consults
• Cardiac Surgeon available and rounds on patients
• Hospitalist coverage at night
• Epic EMR
• Sectra PACS

Clinical Expectations

• Management of CABG, valve repair/replacement, and aortic surgery patients
• Daily assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning
• Arrhythmia and pacemaker management
• Volume management, diuresis, and electrolyte management
• Infection surveillance and recognition of clinical deterioration
• Chest tube and pacing wire removal
• Surgical drain removal and wound care
• Admission, discharge, and care coordination

Requirements & Credentialing

• Board certification required
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience required
• Level I trauma experience required
• Active Missouri license required; willing to license
• Compact licensure accepted
• BLS and ACLS required
