Job description
Seeking an experienced Locum Nurse Practitioner to provide General Surgery coverage in an acute care hospital setting. The role includes a combination of Surgical First Assist operating room responsibilities and Medical Surgical Floor coverage, working closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
The provider will primarily support General Surgery, OB/GYN, and Orthopedic patients and should have recent surgical experience, strong clinical judgment, and excellent communication skills.
Job Responsibilities
• Assist with positioning patients and maintaining surgical access
• Apply clamps, sutures, staples, and surgical adhesives as appropriate
• Assist with wound and vessel cauterization
• Apply direct pressure to veins and tissue to assist with hemostasis
• Assist with suction, drainage, and irrigation procedures
• Assist with wound closure and postoperative care
• Support patient immobilization and positioning during procedures
• Round on Medical Surgical Floor patients
• Complete progress notes and manage patient orders
• Assist with consultations and patient discharges
• Provide ongoing management of acutely ill adult patients
• Participate in weekday and weekend call coverage as scheduled
• Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia, nursing, and other healthcare professionals
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in EPIC
Qualifications
• Board Certified
• Minimum 2 years of recent clinical experience
• Recent surgical experience required
• Robotics experience required
• Surgical First Assist experience strongly required
• EPIC experience required
• AHA BLS certification
• AHA ACLS certification
• ATLS certification
• AHA or RQI certifications accepted as applicable
• Must be able to provide current CV with complete work history
• Work history should account for gaps of 30 days or more
• Residents and Fellows are not eligible
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Must be comfortable working with adult acutely ill patients
Working Hours
• Night Coverage: 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Weekday Call: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM or 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
• Weekend Call: Friday 5:00 PM – Monday 7:00 AM
• Weekend rounds: Saturday & Sunday, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
• Ongoing PRN coverage with specific required coverage periods
• December 14–18: 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• December 18–21: 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• December 28–30: 3 × 12 hour shifts
• Weeknight call: 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Scheduled coverage with optional on call responsibilities
