A growing outpatient behavioral health practice in Fairfax, Virginia, is seeking a Psychiatrist or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to join its clinical team.

This flexible 1099 opportunity offers estimated compensation of $120–$160 per hour and may be structured as onsite, telehealth, or hybrid based on provider availability, patient demand, and organizational needs.

The provider will conduct psychiatric evaluations, establish diagnoses, develop individualized treatment plans, and provide ongoing medication management for children, adolescents, and adults. The practice treats a broad range of behavioral health conditions and offers a collaborative environment with access to psychotherapy and advanced psychiatric treatment services.

This opportunity is well suited for a provider seeking flexibility, clinical autonomy, and the support of an established multidisciplinary behavioral health team.

Job Responsibilities

Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and diagnostic assessments. Develop individualized, evidence-based treatment plans. Provide ongoing medication management and psychopharmacology services. Evaluate and treat conditions including depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, OCD, eating disorders, and other behavioral health concerns. Monitor medication effectiveness, treatment response, side effects, and patient safety. Complete suicide-risk and crisis assessments when clinically necessary. Provide patient and family education regarding diagnoses, medications, and treatment options. Deliver brief supportive interventions when appropriate. Collaborate with therapists, psychiatrists, primary care providers, and other behavioral health professionals. Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation. Coordinate referrals for psychotherapy, TMS, Spravato, or other advanced treatment options when appropriate.

Qualifications

Psychiatrist candidates must hold an MD or DO, complete an accredited psychiatry residency, and hold an active and unrestricted Virginia medical license. PMHNP candidates must hold a master’s or doctoral degree from an accredited Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program, current PMHNP-BC certification, and an active Virginia APRN license with prescriptive authority. Active DEA registration and controlled-substance prescribing authority are required. Strong outpatient psychiatric assessment and medication-management experience is required. Candidates must be comfortable working independently while collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. Experience with telepsychiatry and treating children, adolescents, and adults is preferred.

Working Hours

Flexible full-time or part-time 1099 schedule. Providers may offer services onsite in Fairfax, through secure telehealth, or through a hybrid schedule. Exact working days, clinical hours, minimum availability, patient volume, and scheduling expectations will be established during the interview. The opportunity may provide a future pathway to W-2 employment.
