Our client is seeking an experienced Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join an established inpatient behavioral health and substance use treatment program in Amsterdam, NY.
This is a full-time opportunity for a Nurse Practitioner who is comfortable working with individuals with psychiatric and substance use disorders and providing comprehensive assessment, medication management, and ongoing clinical care as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.
Job Responsibilities
Diagnose and manage psychiatric, substance use, and related medical conditions
Develop and implement individualized patient treatment and medication management plans
Assess patients for medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for substance use disorders
Prescribe, monitor, titrate, maintain, and taper medications as clinically appropriate
Manage medications used in the treatment of substance use disorders, including buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, acamprosate, and disulfiram
Order, review, and interpret appropriate diagnostic and laboratory testing
Monitor medication effectiveness, potential side effects, and changes in patient condition
Perform and document follow-up patient visits
Complete pre-admission medical clearance and interviews when indicated
Evaluate medical emergencies and coordinate referrals to appropriate medical facilities when necessary
Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment recommendations, and discharge instructions
Participate in case conferences, multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, medical staff meetings, and performance improvement initiatives
Collaborate closely with physicians, nursing staff, counselors, and other members of the clinical team
Participate in medical on-call coverage as assigned
Qualifications
Active New York State Nurse Practitioner license
National Nurse Practitioner certification
Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner experience
Minimum of 1 year of Nurse Practitioner experience preferred
Experience in addiction medicine, behavioral health, or substance use disorder treatment strongly preferred
Unrestricted DEA registration
Current CPR certification
Active Medicaid number highly preferred
Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary inpatient treatment environment
