Overview:

A respected healthcare organization in New York City is seeking a Director of Occupational Health to oversee and elevate the health, safety, and wellness of all staff, volunteers, and visitors. This position combines clinical leadership, occupational health management, and emergency preparedness coordination.

The Director will ensure the delivery of high-quality, compliant, and compassionate care to employees, while fostering a culture of wellness and safety across the organization. This individual will also serve as a practicing Nurse Practitioner, providing urgent and preventive health services to the workforce.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate daily operations of the Employee Health Department, ensuring efficient delivery of care and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide direct clinical services to staff, including assessment, treatment, and health counseling for occupational injuries or illness.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures in line with OSHA, The Joint Commission, NYSDOH, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Collaborate with leadership across departments to promote a safe, healthy, and engaged workplace environment.
  • Evaluate systems, workflows, and outcomes to continuously improve the quality of care and operational efficiency.
  • Supervise and mentor Employee Health staff, addressing performance issues, guiding professional development, and fostering teamwork.
  • Participate in and contribute to hospital committees related to infection control, emergency management, and safety compliance.
  • Oversee health surveillance programs, vaccination initiatives, and compliance tracking for all employees.
  • Maintain secure storage and accurate documentation of all medications, vaccines, and medical supplies.
  • Manage department budgets, equipment, and resources to support effective operations.
  • Conduct wellness education and training for employees on topics such as health promotion, injury prevention, and infection control.
  • Serve as a key liaison between leadership, medical teams, and staff, ensuring transparent communication and prompt follow-up on health and safety matters.
  • Support emergency preparedness efforts and act as a nursing lead during emergency response situations.

Qualifications:

  • Active New York State RN and NP licensure
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or a related field required
  • Minimum five (5) years of occupational health experience
  • Strong leadership, communication, and critical thinking skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate across departments and lead quality improvement initiatives
  • Demonstrated compassion, professionalism, and commitment to creating a healthy, inclusive workplace
