🌟 Exciting Hospital-Based Opportunity for Experienced Nurse Practitioners!

We are seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) for an inpatient postpartum women's health assignment in New York City. This opportunity is ideal for a board-certified NP with recent postpartum experience who is confident managing routine postpartum care and recognizing acute complications in a hospital setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform postpartum assessments following vaginal and cesarean deliveries.
• Manage daily postpartum care and evaluate patients' recovery.
• Assess cesarean incisions, surgical dressings, vaginal lacerations, and sutures.
• Perform suture removal and dressing changes as appropriate.
• Provide discharge education, contraceptive counseling, and breastfeeding guidance.
• Review and manage laboratory results.
• Recognize and manage postpartum complications, including:
  • Acute hypertension
  • Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH)
  • Chest pain and shortness of breath
  • Presyncope and syncope
• Identify changes in patient condition and initiate appropriate clinical evaluation and orders.
• Collaborate with physicians, residents, laborists, Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists, anesthesiology staff, and the code response team.

Position Details

• Hospital-based inpatient postpartum care.
• Two postpartum units, with approximately 25 beds per unit.
• Typical patient volume: 12–16 patients per day.
• Primarily routine postpartum cases, with some acute-care cases.
• Electronic Medical Records (EMR): Epic.
• No call responsibilities.
• Breastfeeding counseling training may be provided, with an onsite lactation consultant available.

Shift Schedule

• Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• Night Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Weekdays and weekends required.
• 13 shifts per month, rotating approximately half days and half nights.
• One-hour unpaid lunch break.
• No holiday shifts required.
• No direct rotation from a night shift to a day shift the following day.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Active New York State NP license.
• Board certification required.
• Master's degree required.
• Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult Nurse Practitioner accepted.
• Minimum of 2 years of recent inpatient OB/postpartum experience.
• Current BLS certification required.
• ACLS certification preferred.
• DEA registration required.
• Strong clinical skills in routine postpartum management and recognition of acute postpartum complications.
• Flexibility to work rotating day and night shifts.

Additional Information

• Credentialing timeframe: approximately 90 days.
• Coverage reason: maternity leave.
• Initial 13-week assignment, with potential extension for another 13 weeks.
