Job Title: Neonatology Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant (Full-Time, Permanent)

Position Overview:

We are seeking experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioners (NNPs) or Physician Assistants (PAs) to join our esteemed Neonatology team within our high-volume Level III NICUs. This is a full-time, permanent position offering an excellent opportunity for professionals committed to delivering exceptional, family-centered neonatal care. The role provides the chance to work across two major teaching hospitals—Providence St. Vincent Medical Center and Providence Portland Medical Center—collaborating with multidisciplinary teams dedicated to high-acuity neonatal patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive clinical management for high-risk neonates and infants, including diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing care.
  • Collaborate with neonatologists, nurses, and support staff to develop and implement patient care plans that prioritize safety, quality, and family engagement.
  • Exercise autonomous clinical judgment to order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, laboratory studies, and imaging to inform patient treatment.
  • Participate actively in deliveries, including attending high-volume delivery rooms, and perform all necessary neonatal procedures.
  • Support unit operations by contributing to patient assessments, discharge planning, and follow-up care.
  • Assist in educational activities for families, staff, and medical students as part of teaching hospital responsibilities.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed documentation within electronic medical records.

Qualifications:
  • Completion of an accredited neonatal fellowship or residency program (minimum 12 months) as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
  • Valid licensure or eligibility to obtain licensure to practice in Oregon; willingness to acquire Operating Room (OR) privileges is required.
  • Prior experience in a Level III NICU, with high-volume delivery room exposure preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented approach to patient care.
  • Flexibility to work 12- or 24-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Work Environment & Shift Information:
  • Coverage at both Providence St. Vincent Medical Center and Providence Portland Medical Center.
  • Shifts are typically 12-hour or 24-hour blocks, with arrangements to suit service needs.
  • Both facilities serve high-volume delivery services: Providence Portland Medical Center averages 4,500 deliveries annually, while Providence St. Vincent Medical Center handles approximately 3,000.
  • Providers will work primarily at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center but will also support activities at Providence Portland Medical Center.

Team Structure & Support:
  • Our team includes 13 Neonatal Nurse Practitioners working within Providence Medical Group.
  • Neonatal physicians are contracted professionals, collaborating closely with NNPs and PAs.
  • Providers share responsibilities for in-unit patient care, deliveries, and procedures, with physicians typically conducting daily patient assessments.
  • Dedicated office spaces are available at each site for after-hours and administrative use.

Benefits & Career Development:
  • Competitive salary package commensurate with experience.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plans.
  • Support for licensure renewal, continuing education, and professional growth.
  • Opportunities to contribute to teaching and mentorship of residents and students.
  • Engaged, supportive work environment with an emphasis on work-life balance.
