Position Overview
An established liver specialty practice in Tucson, Arizona, is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner to join its multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive care for patients with liver disease.
This opportunity combines outpatient hepatology care, clinical procedures, patient education, and clinical research participation. The successful candidate will evaluate and manage patients with a range of liver conditions, contribute to continuity of care, and collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
Experienced Nurse Practitioners transitioning from general practice are welcome to apply if they have a strong clinical foundation and are committed to developing specialty expertise. Candidates with gastroenterology, hepatology, or liver disease experience are especially encouraged to apply.
New graduate Nurse Practitioners are not being considered.
Job Responsibilities
• Assess, diagnose, and manage patients within the Nurse Practitioner's authorized scope of practice and demonstrated competency.
• Review laboratory results and diagnostic studies to guide clinical decisions and treatment planning.
• Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans.
• Provide follow-up care and recognize clinical changes requiring additional evaluation or physician consultation.
• Educate patients and families regarding liver disease, medications, lifestyle modifications, treatment adherence, and ongoing disease management.
• Learn and perform paracentesis and therapeutic phlebotomy after appropriate training and competency assessment.
• Follow established clinical workflows and evidence-based protocols, including applicable American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases guidelines.
• Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation using standardized templates.

• Provide coverage at assigned satellite clinics outside Tucson.
Expected patient volume is approximately 16–20 patients per day.
Clinical Research
The Nurse Practitioner will participate in clinical research as a subinvestigator, subject to assigned responsibilities, qualifications, and applicable study requirements.
Responsibilities include:
• Following study protocols and established research workflows.
• Maintaining accurate documentation for research participant visits.
• Coordinating with physicians and research staff regarding patient care and study activities.
• Supporting assigned clinical, research, educational, and operational responsibilities
Qualifications
One week of paid orientation is provided to familiarize the new hire with clinical workflows, documentation standards, protocols, and operational expectations.
Orientation does not replace the clinical foundation required of an experienced Nurse Practitioner or constitute a residency program.
Candidates without direct GI or hepatology experience must be willing to pursue ongoing specialty learning, review medical literature, participate in educational sessions, and develop clinical competency with appropriate guidance.
Mandatory educational sessions cover liver disease, clinical management, research, and practice protocols. Candidates should be prepared for independent study outside scheduled clinic hours when necessary.
