General Summary: Provide the full scope of primary care services which fall under his/her field of training, including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care, and health maintenance to patients two (2) years of age and above in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations and the nursing standards of care. The nurse practitioner is expected to be familiar with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of CareATC and work collaboratively to achieve them. They must be cognizant of, and comply with, all CareATC policies and procedures, as well as pertinent state and federal regulations.

Supervisory Responsibility: Supervise medical support staff (Medical Assistants, LPNs).

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Obtain health history and perform physical examinations.

  • Diagnose and direct counseling for each patient on a plan for treatment.

  • Prescribe medication in accordance with state statutes and professional practice guidelines.

  • Perform minor surgical procedures.

  • Arrange referral for patients requiring services not offered at CareATC.

  • Review incoming reports (e.g., lab, x-ray, EKG), sign, date, and follow up in a timely manner.

  • Comply with the CareATC Infection Control plan which includes personally utilizing universal precautions. Ensure compliance by support staff.

  • Participate in peer review, quality assurance, provider meetings, and other clinical meetings.

  • Assist in updating protocols and principles of practice as requested.

  • Assist in outside medical public relations functions.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program.

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years’ experience practicing as an APRN, preferably in a primary-care of family medicine setting.

  • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current and valid Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Licensure required. Current and valid Nurse Practitioner certification in specialty area required. Current and valid BLS Certification required.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality according to HIPAA and company policy.

  • Ability to perform CPR and venipuncture.

  • Ability to administer prescribed treatments.

  • Ability to relate cooperatively and constructively with patients, families, significant others, co-workers, administration, other hospital departments, physicians, community agencies, third party payers, referral sources, regulators, and other health team members.

  • Ability to constructively supervise others. Ability to enlist the cooperation of others. High tolerance for stress.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment. Self-directing and organized. Ability to reason objectively.

  • Ability to assess, project and plan for patient’s needs.

  • Ability to interpret state/ federal/agency regulations. Ability to document concisely, accurately, and timely.

  • Ability to handle a variety of duties which may be interrupted or changed by immediate circumstances.


Performance Requirements:

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. Ability to operate a computer. Ability to report to work at a minimum, at scheduled times. Ability to lift, pull, push manipulate equipment and patients require strength, gross motor, and fine motor coordination.

  • Essential Sensory Requirements: Ability to communicate effectively (hear, listen, speak) with team members. Ability to communicate effectively (hear, listen, speak) with patients, families, health team members, referral sources and the community at large. Ability to make visual perceptions to evaluate patient and environmental conditions. Exposure to inside and outside environmental conditions.


Equipment Operated: Uses standard medical and office equipment such as EMR systems, vital sign monitors, EKG machines, specimen collection tools, and basic administrative devices (computers, phones, printers).

Work Environment: The position is in a well-lighted office environment. Occasional evening and weekend work. If remote must have internet access and a confidential workspace. Works in a family practice clinic setting with regular patient contact. May be exposed to bodily fluids and contagious illnesses. Requires standing, walking, and occasional lifting.

Travel Required: Little to no travel required.

PRN hours to support the clinic - day shift. No weekends, no nights and no on-call.
