What Locals Love:
The heart of the Heathsville neighborhood is located just a little more than 10 miles from where the Potomac River blends into the Chesapeake Bay, along the Maryland-Virginia border. It's only a short drive—or a pleasant bike ride for cyclists—to the sand and the waves of the bay. Grab a kayak to enjoy the tranquility of the water, or go fishing on one of the many charter fishing boats. It's an idyllic setting, but not too far from city life, since Richmond, Virginia, is just a 70-mile drive west of town.
Don't Miss It:
- Keep busy at the Northumberland Library, which hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including book clubs, technology training classes, children’s reading groups, meetings, and special events.
- Farmers markets are held once a month from April until October at the historic Rice’s Hotel/Hughlett’s Tavern, an 18th century structure that features a working blacksmith shop and carriage house.
- For a breath of fresh air, the Chesapeake Bay is about 10 miles away. Go fishing, biking, kayaking, or simply enjoy the sand and surf.
