We are seeking experienced Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants for Emergency Medicine locum coverage at Emergency Departments in Rhode Island, with a projected start date of November 15, 2026.

Assignment Details

  • Projected Start Date: November 15, 2026
  • Ongoing locum coverage
  • Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants
  • Emergency Medicine / Emergency Department
  • Coverage available across two Rhode Island locations
  • Clean professional and credentialing history strongly preferred

Schedule

  • APP shifts based on 8-hour coverage blocks
  • One location provides approximately 16 APP coverage hours per day
  • Second location provides approximately 8 APP coverage hours per day
  • Additional on-call APP position available from the existing APP team on an as-needed basis
  • Physician coverage provided at both locations

Practice Setting

  • Meditech EMR
  • Collaborative physician and APP staffing model

Emergency Department Volume

  • Higher-volume location:
    • Approximately 33,000 annual ED visits
    • Approximately 85 daily encounters
    • 30 physician coverage hours per day
    • 16 APP coverage hours per day
  • Second location:
    • Approximately 22,000 annual ED visits
    • Approximately 69 daily encounters
    • 30 physician coverage hours per day
    • 8 APP coverage hours per day

Support & Staffing

  • Emergency Medicine physicians onsite
  • Dedicated APP coverage
  • Additional on-call APP support available as needed
  • Residents rotate on a limited basis

Responsibilities

  • Provide Emergency Department coverage as an NP or PA
  • Evaluate and manage patients presenting with acute illnesses and injuries
  • Collaborate with Emergency Medicine physicians and ED staff
  • Provide treatment within established APP scope of practice and facility privileges
  • Support efficient patient flow within the Emergency Department

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
  • Recent Emergency Medicine experience strongly preferred
  • Comfortable working in a hospital-based Emergency Department
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Emergency Medicine physicians
  • Clean credentialing history strongly preferred
  • Rhode Island licensure and specific certification requirements will need to be confirmed

Ideal Candidate

An experienced Emergency Medicine NP or PA with recent hospital-based ED experience who is comfortable working in a collaborative physician/APP model. These opportunities are particularly attractive for APPs seeking ongoing 8-hour Emergency Department shifts at facilities seeing approximately 22,000–33,000 annual visits.
