We are seeking a Board-Certified Cardiology Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) for a full-time locum tenens opportunity at St. Joseph Hospital in Eureka, California. This ongoing assignment supports a long-term permanent provider search and offers a consistent Monday–Friday schedule with no call responsibilities.
The provider will work in both inpatient and outpatient cardiology settings, collaborating with an experienced cardiovascular team to deliver exceptional patient care. This position utilizes the Epic EMR system and is ideal for an advanced practice provider with recent inpatient cardiology and rounding experience.
Job Responsibilities
Evaluate, diagnose, and manage patients with acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions.
Perform hospital rounding and inpatient cardiology consultations.
Conduct outpatient follow-up visits and patient assessments.
Develop treatment plans in collaboration with supervising cardiologists.
Order and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory and cardiac studies.
Prescribe medications within scope of practice.
Educate patients and families on cardiovascular disease prevention and treatment.
Document all patient encounters accurately using Epic EMR.
Collaborate with physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care.
Qualifications
Board Certified as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant.
Active California NP or PA license.
Current DEA registration.
Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
Minimum 2 years of current hospital clinical activity in Cardiology.
Recent inpatient cardiology rounding experience within the last two years is required.
Active clinical experience in cardiology.
Updated CV including all hospital affiliations.
Any employment gaps greater than three months must be explained.
Experience with Epic EMR preferred.
Working Hours
Assignment: Ongoing
Coverage Type: No Call
Practice Setting: Inpatient & Outpatient
Schedule: Monday–Friday
Shift Hours: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Lunch: 1 Hour
Full-Time: 35–40 hours per week
Guaranteed Hours: 8 hours per day
Overtime: Applies after 9 hours per day (pre-approval required)
Patient Volume: Approximately 12 patients per shift
Hospital Privileges Required: Yes
