Job description

A highly specialized pediatric cardiac program is seeking an experienced Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join a collaborative, high-acuity inpatient team. This role focuses on the care of infants, children, adolescents, and young adults with complex congenital and acquired cardiac, thoracic, and vascular conditions.

The NP will practice in advanced inpatient settings including the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, telemetry unit, and post-anesthesia cardiac unit, and will also be involved in the care of cardiac infants delivered on-site in an advanced delivery environment. This is an opportunity to work at the top of your license within a program recognized for clinical excellence, innovation, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Scope of Practice:

  • Perform comprehensive assessments including medical histories and physical examinations for inpatient pediatric cardiac patients

  • Order and interpret diagnostic and laboratory studies and prescribe medications and treatment plans

  • Present patients on rounds and manage daily documentation including progress notes and discharge summaries within the electronic medical record

  • Participate in preoperative and postoperative management of complex cardiac surgical patients

  • Coordinate care across disciplines to ensure continuity and high-quality outcomes

  • Participate in patient care conferences and quality improvement initiatives

  • Deliver family-centered care, supporting and educating families throughout the hospitalization

Patient Population:

Care is provided to patients ranging from newborns through young adulthood with congenital and acquired heart disease. The program supports complex cardiac surgery, heart transplantation, advanced heart failure and pulmonary hypertension services, and mechanical circulatory support including ECMO, VADs, and ECLS.

Schedule:

  • Rotating schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays

This role is ideal for an NP who thrives in a fast-paced, specialized environment and is motivated by making a meaningful impact in the care of children with complex cardiac needs.
