Position Overview
An independent, physician-owned women's health practice in Chicago's south suburbs is adding two Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs) to its established team. This is a predominantly outpatient position, with approximately 90% of the role based in the office across two locations and a defined, manageable labor-and-delivery component.
The practice intentionally maintains a low obstetric volume, allowing CNMs to focus primarily on prenatal, postpartum, gynecologic, and well-woman care while maintaining meaningful involvement in deliveries.
The CNM will provide primary call coverage for uncomplicated vaginal deliveries, with an OB/GYN physician available for back-up on every call day.
- Two outpatient office locations in Chicago's south suburbs
- Approximately 90% outpatient / 10% delivery-related
- Single covering hospital for deliveries
- Hospital has a Level III nursery
- Residents and staff CNMs are on site
- Established CNM program with an experienced midwife who coordinates the program and shares call
- Physician support available for every call period
Job Responsibilities
• Provide prenatal and postpartum care
• Provide well-woman and gynecologic care
• Perform annual examinations and routine women's health screenings
• Provide contraceptive counseling and management
• Order, interpret, and act upon laboratory and diagnostic studies
• Coordinate physician consultation when clinically indicated
• Maintain continuity of care across both office locations
Labor & Delivery
• Provide primary call coverage for uncomplicated vaginal deliveries
• Manage labor, delivery, and immediate postpartum care within CNM scope of practice
• Recognize complications and promptly involve the physician on back call when indicated
• Coordinate care with hospital nursing staff, residents, and on-site midwifery staff
• Provide appropriate patient education and support throughout labor and delivery
Collaboration & Program Development
• Work alongside the established CNM who coordinates the midwifery program
• Share the call rotation with the existing CNM team
• Collaborate with OB/GYN physicians regarding shared patients and clinical care
• Participate in maintaining clinical standards and continuity of care
• Contribute to the continued development of the midwifery program
Qualifications
Experience in one or more of the following is preferred:
• Full-scope nurse midwifery in a private or physician-owned practice
• Outpatient women's health combined with labor-and-delivery coverage
• Prenatal, postpartum, gynecologic, and well-woman care
• Hospital-based delivery coverage
• Working in a hospital with residents and/or on-site midwifery staff
• Multi-location outpatient practice
• Managing a defined call and delivery schedule
Required Qualifications
• Master's degree or higher from an accredited nurse midwifery program
• Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) certification through the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB)
• Active Illinois APRN license or eligibility to obtain prior to start
• Active DEA registration or eligibility to obtain prior to start
• Eligible for hospital privileges
• Clean malpractice and licensure history
Working Hours
• Approximately 2.5 office days per week
• Mix of obstetric and gynecologic patients
• One 24-hour call day per week
• Dedicated day off immediately following the 24-hour call
• One 72-hour call weekend per month
• Approximately 35 deliveries per month practice-wide
• Primary call limited to uncomplicated vaginal deliveries
• Physician back-up available during every call period
