Promotes excellence in clinical practice in antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum and well woman care; and in education, consultant services and clinical research. Diagnoses and coordinates all aspects of the birthing process as part of a healthcare team. May provide well-woman gynecological care.

Clinical Practice - Performs complete diagnostic evaluation of patients by administering the appropriate tests and measurements. Develops a treatment plan based upon the evaluation, patient goals and goals established to optimize treatment and the recovery of the patients. Modifies treatment programs at regular intervals documenting patient progress and response to treatment. Provides education, training, and support to patient/family to assist with treatment requirements, discharge planning and home programming. Strives to meet and exceed individual/patient/ family and other customer expectations.
Communication - Shares thoughts and information in a clear, concise and professional manner, in both oral and written communication formats. Demonstrates active listening and seeks further information to ensure clarity and understanding. Promptly responds to requests for information and works to proactively think through next steps and anticipate potential issues, requests, or business needs. Openly shares knowledge and expertise.
Training/Patient Education - Acts as a preceptor and shares knowledge and expertise to facilitate the learning of others. Develops an education plan for patients and families based on individual learning priorities and evaluates effectiveness of education provided.
Collaboration - Coordinates job activities with team members and leaders as required. Finds workable solutions that can be leveraged by other team members. Seeks out and shares best practices for performing job duties.
Ethical Practice - Demonstrates the highest level of confidentiality standards in handling of customer relations, medical and prescription records and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance. Maintains confidentiality as appropriate, earns trust and respect of others, and exhibits behaviors that express the ethical practice of a healthcare organization.
Quality Assurance - Maintains a consistent, high level of quality outcomes by adhering to every stage of the process, continuously planning, and systematically measuring the effectiveness of outcomes.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Requires Certification in Nurse-Midwifery by the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
  • Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
  • Requires current Indiana Nurse- Midwife/Certified Nurse-Midwife license.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • New ASN RNs hired after January 1, 2013 will be required to complete their BSN within five (5) years from date of hire into this job.
  • Requires staff privileges at the organization for inpatient care.
  • Prescriptive authority in accordance with the Indiana Nurse Practice Act.
