Company History

Nicklaus Children’s Health System’s story began in March 1950 with the opening of Variety Children’s Hospital in Miami, following decades of community fundraising and organizing. In 1983, after a major campus expansion, the hospital was renamed Miami Children’s Hospital and continued its march to national and international prominence. Following a generous donation from the children’s health care foundation associated with golf legend Jack Nicklaus and his wife Barbara, the hospital became Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in 2015. In recent decades, Nicklaus Children’s Health System has continued to lead the region in pediatric clinical excellence, while expanding access throughout South Florida through a growing outpatient center network and affiliations to offer pediatric inpatient care in Broward and Palm Beach counties.
