Company History
NaphCare: Founded on Innovation
More than 35 years ago while running his family drug store, Dewberry Drug Co., and serving as Chief Pharmacist at Cooper Green Mercy Hospital, James McLane began providing pharmaceuticals to jails. On January 4, 1989, McLane founded Correctional Pharmacy Systems, Inc., the company now known as NaphCare, to provide pharmaceutical services exclusively to correctional facilities.
In 1996, McLane sold his family drug store to focus all of his resources on correctional healthcare. Recognizing the growing need for quality medical care for inmates in prisons and jails, he changed the company name from Correctional Pharmacy Systems to National Prison Healthcare, officially founding the company now known as NaphCare.
Over time, he saw the needs of patients become more complex, leading his team to develop a number of innovative services and technologies specifically for the corrections environment. For three decades, NaphCare has remained an independent, family-owned business. While other companies engage in mergers and acquisitions, we remain under consistent leadership with an unchanging mission.
