At Culbertson, you are more than a number in a large system. Your voice matters. Your expertise is valued. Your impact is visible.
You will collaborate with a dedicated, multidisciplinary team that believes quality healthcare begins with compassion, teamwork, and accountability. Decisions are made locally, allowing you to shape care delivery in meaningful ways and respond directly to community needs.
Long-Term Financial Security
As an Illinois district hospital, we offer something increasingly rare in healthcare: long-term retirement stability through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF). After just 10 years of service, you become vested in a pension that guarantees lifetime retirement income. This is more than a benefit—it’s a foundation for your future.
While you dedicate your career to improving the lives of others, we help secure yours.

Company History
When Dr. Culbertson passed away in 1949, he entrusted the hospital to the people of Schuyler County, ensuring its future as a community asset. His only stipulation was that it bear the name of his beloved wife and co-founder, Sarah, whom he credited as the true inspiration behind its existence. Today, the hospital proudly carries her name, honoring the partnership and shared purpose that brought it to life.
In 1950, the organization was formally established as a District Operated Hospital under Illinois law and incorporated as the Schuyler County Hospital District. This structure secured its long-term sustainability and affirmed its identity as a hospital owned by and accountable to the community it serves. More than a century after its founding, Sarah D. Culbertson Memorial Hospital continues to reflect the same spirit of dedication, local stewardship, and commitment to excellence that inspired its creation.
