Company Information

AnMed is a 648 bed, award winning health system recognized for patient safety and clinical excellence and applauded as a regional healthcare leader. AnMed’s Medical Group is comprised of around 60 owned or managed physician practices.

Located along South Carolina’s National Heritage Corridor, the greater Anderson area is a fast-growing and diverse county of about 185,000 residents in the northwest area of South Carolina near beautiful Lake Hartwell and the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and just 30 minutes south of Greenville, SC. Lake front property is very affordable and property taxes are lower than neighboring counties. The area is known for its top-rated public and private schools, a thriving downtown, attractive cost of living and cultural opportunities associated with Anderson and Clemson Universities. Anderson has a moderate temperature year round with four distinct seasons. The nearby mountains provide a show of incredible fall colors and the coast is close by as well.

Company History

AnMed got its start in 1904 when Mrs. Jennie Gilmer, a young wife and mother, promised God that if she survived the birth of her second son, she would see that a hospital was built in Anderson. Mrs. Gilmer survived, and largely due to her efforts, the Anderson County Hospital Association was organized and incorporated in 1906. Mrs. Gilmer and members of the Association led a spirited effort to raise the $25,000 needed to construct the original two-story, 25-bed hospital building. Anderson County Hospital, as it was first called, officially opened on April 20, 1908.

Since its opening, Anderson County Hospital has grown into South Carolina’s largest, independent, not-for-profit health system. With 648 beds, AnMed continues to grow and thrive in our community.
