Company Information

Summit Healthcare is a private, not-for-profit organization located in the beautiful White Mountains of Northeastern Arizona. As a regional medical center with 101 licensed beds, Summit Healthcare responds to the healthcare needs of more than 90,000 permanent and seasonal residents living in a 3,000 square mile area.

Company History

In the mid-sixties, the communities of Show Low, Pinetop-Lakeside, Snowflake, Taylor, Heber were served by the Josephine Goldwater Hospital and McNary General Hospital. Dr. Arnold H. Dysterheft, the Medical Director of McNary General Hospital, played a pivotal role in the decision to replace the two existing hospitals with a single facility. With a grant allocated in November 1965, the Arizona Hospital Association recommended a site on Highway 260 in Show Low, generously donated by Phelps Dodge Corporation. Named Navapache Hospital, the facility opened its doors in December 1970, providing family and primary care. Over the years, the hospital underwent expansions, becoming Navapache Regional Medical Center in 2007 and later Summit Healthcare. Significant developments included the addition of specialized units, state-of-the-art technology, and a focus on community well-being, culminating in a 50-year journey marked by growth, achievements, and a commitment to compassionate care. Today, Summit Healthcare stands as a beacon of healthcare excellence in the White Mountain community.
