Company History

The Toledo Clinic: A Legacy of Physician-Led Care

The Toledo Clinic began in 1926 when three visionary surgeons—Dr. William A. Neill, Dr. James Magoun, and Dr. Kinsey Renshaw—formed a pioneering group practice in Toledo, Ohio. Inspired by a shared commitment to accessible, high-quality care, their partnership quickly grew, welcoming specialists in internal medicine, dermatology, orthopedics, neurology, and more.

Amid the Great Depression, the Clinic relocated to a large residence known as “The Mansion,” allowing for expansion and innovation. The home was creatively repurposed—with a kitchen turned into a lab and a garage transformed into a surgical suite. By the 1950s, the Clinic had added new wings, remodeled neighboring buildings, and installed its first cobalt unit for cancer treatment.

In 1970, following decades of growth, The Toledo Clinic moved to a new, custom-built facility on Secor Road. The original building was donated and repurposed as the William A. Neill Center for Developmental Disabilities. Today, the Secor Road campus spans three buildings and houses a range of services, including radiology, pharmacy, pathology, physical therapy, and an expanded Outpatient Surgery Center.

As a physician-owned and led organization, The Toledo Clinic empowers doctors to make clinical decisions and prioritize patient care. This unique model continues to define the Clinic’s success and commitment to the communities it serves.
