Sarasota Memorial Health Care System is a full-service public health system, with three hospitals offering specialized expertise in heart, vascular, cancer, orthopedic and neuroscience services, as well as a state-of-the-art cancer care center and a network of outpatient centers, urgent care centers, laboratories, diagnostic imaging and physician practices, skilled nursing and rehabilitation among our many programs. Sarasota Memorial also serves as the region's health care safety net, with Sarasota County's only trauma center, obstetrical services, neonatal intensive care unit, inpatient pediatrics unit and psychiatric services for patients of all ages.
The system's flagship 897-bed campus, Sarasota Memorial Hospital-Sarasota, has been consistently recognized as one of the nation’s best hospitals. A regional referral center providing the greatest depth and breadth of care to the community, the campus also includes state-of-the-art specialized centers of care, including the Brian D. Jellison Cancer Institute Oncology Tower, Acute Inpatient Rehabilitation Pavilion and an 82-bed Cornell Behavioral Health Pavilion.
With the opening of Sarasota Memorial Hospital-Venice in 2021, we were able to provide South Sarasota County residents convenient access to the same 5-Star service lines that are available at our SMH-Sarasota Campus. SMH-Venice features 212 private rooms, 61 ER bays in the Emergency Care Center, 8 surgical suites and 10 birthing suites. The Venice campus continues to undergo multiple expansions that will double the hospital's capacity in the upcoming years.
In 2028, we will be opening a new 100-bed hospital in North Port along with an outpatient medical center in Venice to include an Endoscopy Center, outpatient cancer care services like radiation oncology, medical & surgical physician clinics, infusion services, diagnostic imaging and supportive care in one location.

Sarasota County’s largest employer, the health system includes two full-service hospitals in Sarasota and Venice, a freestanding ER in North Port and Lakewood Ranch, and a comprehensive network of outpatient centers, urgent care clinics and physician practices that stretch from Manatee County to North Port. As the region's only public health system and not-for-profit health care provider, SMH serves as a critical safety net for the uninsured in Sarasota County.
In 2025, Sarasota Memorial Health Care System invested in transformative projects including construction of the Milman-Kover Outpatient Cancer Pavilion and the Kolschowsky Research and Education Institute. We are also building two new medical campuses to serve the fast-growing North Port and Wellen Park communities in South Sarasota County.
