Job Description

Last Update: 6/13/19
Facility is seeking a BC/BE Cardiologist with TAVR experience for an employed position with a hospital-owned single specialty group. There are currently 12 Cardiologists in the group and office space is currently available. A competitive recruitment package is available and may include: relocation, annual CME allowance and medical education debt reimbursement.

Hospital is a 198-bed acute care hospital. The hospital has been nationally recognized for quality, and in 2012 – for the sixth consecutive year – was named one of America’s Top 50 Hospitals by HealthGrades, a national accrediting organization. For three years in a row, it has been named Best Hospital in the Scranton / Wilkes-Barre Area by U.S. News and World Report magazine and to Becker’s Hospital Review list of the leading 100 hospitals in the United States.

Facility offers easy access to a number of major cities including Philadelphia, New York City and Baltimore. It is the sixth largest city in the state of Pennsylvania and is the geographic and cultural center of the Lackawanna River Valley. It is the largest city located in a contiguous quilt-work of former anthracite coal mining communities including the smaller cities of Wilkes-Barre, Pittston and Carbondale.

Three area hospitals and a number of outpatient clinics now officially belong to Community Health Systems Inc., a for-profit company that has promised to invest at least $68 million in the facilities over the next five years.
The $150 million sale of the Hospital, as well as Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock and Special Care Hospital in Nanticoke, was finalized Monday. Tennessee-based CHS, which owns Wilkes-Barre General, Pottstown Memorial Medical Center and 128 other hospitals throughout the country, was selected as a buyer for the facilities owned by Mercy Health Partners in February.
The new System includes the 198-bed Hospital and 48-bed Sister hospital bringing CHS' total number of acute hospitals in Pennsylvania to 13. CHS also acquired Mercy Health Partners' 67-bed Special Care Hospital in Nanticoke, PA, and other outpatient and ancillary services.
Despite the name changes and the shift from nonprofit to for-profit facilities, hospital and CHS officials said there will be little change in the day-to-day operations. CHS has agreed to keep on all hospital employees in good standing for at least one year and maintain relationships with all physicians serving on the hospitals' medical staffs.
