Job description Trauma Surgery opening in South Dakota Full time Rapid City, SD A Board Eligible or Board Certified Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon is sought to join a high-volume, regional Level II Trauma Center serving a five-state catchment area. This full-time opportunity offers a collegial, physician-led environment with exceptional clinical resources, strong advanced practice provider support, and an outstanding lifestyle in a premier Mountain West location. Practice Environment * 417-bed regional tertiary care hospital and Level II Trauma Center * State-of-the-art surgical technology with experienced operating room teams, including first assists and 24-hour robotic support * Comprehensive trauma and acute care surgery support from a full range of medical and surgical specialties, including: * Neurosurgery * Orthopedic trauma * Plastic surgery * Vascular surgery * Colorectal and bariatric surgery subspecialists * Robust critical care, hospitalist, interventional cardiology, advanced endoscopy, and interventional radiology services * Collegial, physician-driven culture with active physician leadership * Strong 24/7 advanced practice provider support while on service Schedule and Coverage * Approximately 91 daytime shifts and 60 nighttime shifts annually * Day shifts: 10 hours * Night shifts: 14 hours * Two surgeons on service during daytime hours * Day surgeons alternate providing backup coverage for the in-house nighttime surgeon * Join an established team of five full-time trauma/acute care surgeons * Position created to provide dedicated trauma/ACS coverage, replacing elective surgeons previously covering these shifts * Ability and willingness to manage basic acute care emergencies for bariatric and colorectal surgery patients required Qualifications * Board eligible or board certified in General Surgery * Fellowship training in Trauma and Surgical Critical Care preferred but not required Lifestyle and Location Enjoy the opportunity to practice in one of the fastest-growing and most desirable regions in the Mountain West.
