Board Certified in Surgery with Surgical Critical Care Fellowship – Required

Proven trauma experience with adult/geriatric patient populations

Experience managing both blunt and penetrating trauma

Provide trauma and emergency surgical care for adult, geriatric, and occasional pediatric/adolescent patients

Perform trauma-related procedures including:

Chest tube insertions

Laparoscopic surgeries (appendectomy, cholecystectomy)

Take call coverage as assigned

Collaborate with full OR staff and multidisciplinary teams

Accurately document in the Epic EMR system

Support trauma team response in a high-volume ER (80,000 annual visits)

Job Responsibilities
Perform trauma-related procedures including:
Chest tube insertions
Laparoscopic surgeries (appendectomy, cholecystectomy)
Take call coverage as assigned
Collaborate with full OR staff and multidisciplinary teams
Accurately document in the Epic EMR system
Support trauma team response in a high-volume ER (80,000 annual visits)
Qualifications
Active Connecticut Medical License – Preferred; may consider if none available
ACLS Certification – Required
DEA Certification – Required at time of name clear
Proven trauma experience with adult/geriatric patient populations
Experience managing both blunt and penetrating trauma
Working Hours
3 weekday night calls: 4:00 PM–7:00 AM
2 weekend 24-hour shifts (Saturday or Sunday, 7:00 AM–7:00 AM next day)
On-Call Requirements: 3 weeknights and 2 weekends per month
Skills
Expertise in blunt and penetrating trauma management
Proficient in laparoscopic procedures (e.g., appendectomy, cholecystectomy)
Strong chest tube placement and wound care skills
Critical decision-making in high-pressure environments
Effective communication in multidisciplinary teams
EMR proficiency (Epic)
Patient-centered approach with compassionate bedside manner
Strong documentation and clinical assessment skills
Leadership in trauma care settings
Familiarity with trauma protocols in Level 1 Trauma Centers
