Job Title: Principal Cardiothoracic Donor Procurement Surgeon

Position Type: Full-Time
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Principal Cardiothoracic Donor Procurement Surgeon to lead and perform deceased donor heart and lung procurement procedures. This role is critical in ensuring the highest standards of surgical quality, donor organ assessment, and coordination with transplant centers across the United States.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate advanced cardiothoracic surgical expertise, strong leadership presence, and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary transplant teams.
Key Responsibilities
Perform deceased donor heart and lung procurement procedures to the highest clinical standards
Conduct comprehensive donor organ assessments and intraoperative evaluations
Ensure adherence to established surgical protocols and quality benchmarks
Collaborate with transplant surgeons and accepting programs to provide detailed surgical assessments
Maintain accurate documentation and reporting related to procurement procedures
Provide mentorship and guidance to procurement team members when required
Communicate effectively with internal clinical teams and external transplant programs
Maintain professionalism and composure in high-pressure surgical environments
Minimum Requirements
MD degree or equivalent
At least 5+ years of experience conducting deceased cardiothoracic (heart and lung) donor organ procurement and assessments and/or advanced cardiothoracic surgical procedures
Specialized cardiothoracic surgical training
Proven expertise in advanced cardiothoracic surgical techniques
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently and collaboratively while building strong rapport with internal and external stakeholders
Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
Highly flexible and adaptable to changing clinical demands
Proficiency with electronic messaging platforms and Microsoft Office Suite
Education
MD degree or equivalent with specialized cardiothoracic surgical training
Minimum of 5+ years conducting deceased cardiothoracic donor organ procurement and assessments and/or advanced cardiothoracic surgical procedures
Compensation
Base Salary: USD $450,000 – $500,000 annually
