UPMC is recruiting a Heart & Lung Transplant Fellow to participate in advanced training across two high-volume services. The fellow will facilitate the Heart and Lung Transplant services with graded responsibility toward independence under the direction of the heart and lung division co-chiefs. The structure of the fellowship is rotation-based. In addition to surgical management, the fellow will serve as a teaching assistant for junior cardiothoracic fellows and residents, contributing to bedside teaching, case-based education, and structured didactics.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day management of heart and lung transplant inpatients, including pre-, intra-, and post-operative care, ICU rounding, and discharge planning.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary care with transplant cardiology, pulmonology, advanced heart and lung failure teams, ECMO/VAD services, infectious diseases, pharmacy, PT/OT, social work, and care management.
  • Participate in organ offers/list management, selection conferences, operative planning, and OR participation for transplant and related procedures.
  • Engage in quality, safety, and performance improvement initiatives within the transplant programs.
  • Participate in call as assigned.
