Locum Thoracic Physician Opportunities in Virginia!

ATC West Healthcare Services is seeking a Locum Thoracic Physician to provide acute-care, hospital-based thoracic surgical coverage. This role offers the opportunity to support a respected thoracic surgery team, performing a full range of thoracic procedures and managing adult and geriatric patients. Providers will deliver essential backup coverage for an established two-provider team.

• February 6 (5:00 p.m.) – February 9 (7:00 a.m.)

Coverage Dates: Multiple dates in 2026
Call Schedule: TBD
Call Ratio: As needed

Job Details / Responsibilities

• Reason for Coverage: Backup for two-provider thoracic team

• Practice Setting: Hospital-based, primarily acute care

• Average Cases per Day: 2–3

• Trauma Level: N/A

• Annual ER Volume: Unknown

• Operating Rooms: 21

• Hemodialysis Access: Yes

• EMR: EPIC

• Ancillary Support: OR, ICU, hospitalist support

• Patient Population: Adult and geriatric

• Robot-Assisted Thoracic Surgery

• VATS

• EBUS, EUS

• Tube Thoracostomy, Tracheostomy

• Pericardial Window

• Thoracic aortic aneurysm management

• Mediastinoscopy

• Segmentectomy, Lobectomy, Bilobectomy, Pneumonectomy

• Thoracotomy, Decortication

Additional Required/Preferred Areas of Care

• Achalasia, Advanced Lung Disease (COPD, pulmonary fibrosis)

• Anti-reflux/GERD surgery

• Barrett’s esophagitis

• Chest wall tumors/reconstruction

• Diaphragm plication, diaphragmatic hernias

• Dysphagia, esophageal cancer

• Lung cancer, lung nodules

• Mediastinal masses, mesothelioma

• Pleural effusion, pneumothorax

• Rib fractures/plating

• Thoracic outlet syndrome

• Thymomas

• Tracheal stenosis, tracheostomy

Credentialing

• Estimated timeframe: 120 days
  

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Board Certified – Required

• Active Virginia medical license – Required (no exceptions)

• BLS & ACLS – Required
